Development in Practice Privacy Statement
This policy establishes how we handle the information we learn about you when you visit the Development in Practice (DIP) website. We are committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of our visitors, and this is an important aspect of the way we create, organise and implement our online and offline activities. Please read the following policy to understand how your personal information will be treated. This policy may change from time to time so please check back periodically.
The specific practices outlined in this privacy statement apply to the DIP website. Other bodies/entities to which DIP is affiliated (e.g. Oxfam GB and other members of Oxfam International) may have slightly different practices, though the commitment to your privacy will always be the same. You are encouraged to review the privacy statements of other bodies/entities when visiting their websites.
Purpose specifications and data collection
In general, you can browse the DIP website without disclosing any information about yourself. If you visit the site to read or download information, we collect and store only the following information that is automatically recognised: the date and time, the originating IP address, the domain name, the type of browser and operating system used (if provided by the browser), the URL of the referring page (if provided by the browser), the object requested, and the completion status of the request.
Cookies and other technologies
As described above, we sometimes collect anonymous information from visits to our site to help us make our site more useful to visitors. For example, we keep the logs of the domains from which people visit and we also measure visitor activity on the DIP website, such as the number of pages visited, and the level of demand for pages and topics of interest. The logs may be preserved indefinitely and used at any time and in any way to prevent security breaches and to ensure the integrity of the data on our servers.
We collect this anonymous information through the use of various technologies, one of which is called ‘cookies’. A cookie is a text-only string of information that we pass to your computer’s hard disk through your browser so that the website can remember who you are. Cookies generally store your IP address and a randomly generated session number. None of this information is reviewed at an individual level. We do not associate the information stored in a visitor's cookie with any other personal data about that visitor. Cookies cannot be used by themselves to identify you. However, if you do not want your details used anonymously, in the way we have described, you can easily disable your cookies. For more information about cookies, please see www.allaboutcookies.org.

Security
When you give DIP personal information we take steps to ensure that it is treated securely. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, DIP cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems. The staff who have access to personal data are obliged to respect the privacy of our visitors and the confidentiality of their personal data.
Children’s safety
The safety of children is very important to us. We do not collect personally identifiable information from children. Children should always ask a parent or guardian for permission before sending personal information to anyone online.
Third-party use
As a general rule, DIP will not disclose any of your personally identifiable information, except when we have your permission or under special circumstances, such as when we believe in good faith that the law requires it. We do not sell or rent user information to anyone. From time to time, we agree with other like-minded organisations to write to some of each other’s subscribers, for the mutual benefit of both.
