The UNEPs Dryland Ecosystems and Desertification Control Programme Activity Centre (DEDC/PAC) is coordinating a programme through the Environmental Liaison Centre International (ELCI) to devise methods for the participatory evaluation and monitoring of projects, forming a useful corollary to Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA). Community-integrated projects should allow for the community evaluation, as well as implementation, of programmes, and the author recommends a number of steps to incorporate successful participatory evaluation.
