Before you submit an article

We encourage contributions from any source, particularly from development practitioners and new writers. Before submitting an article to Development in Practice, however, think first about who you think would most want to read your article and therefore which journal is likely to offer the best access to your intended audience. It is a good idea to look at a recent issue of the journal in order to have a sense of our scope and style.

Our publishers also offer general advice on various aspects on How to Write a Journal Article covering issues such as choosing the best journal for your intended audience, preparing the manuscript for your chosen journal, following the journal's presentational requirements, writing an abstract, using keywords, and providing links to a selection of referencing systems. We strongly encourage experienced as well as new authors to take this advice into account before preparing an article for Development in Practice.

While the journal is published in English, we welcome submissions in French, Portuguese , or Spanish. Development in Practice is a peer-reviewed journal. Please read our Notes for Contributors (PDF 184KB) and Guidance Notes for Short Items and Reviews (PDF 50KB) before you start preparing your article for submission.

The publishers' Guidelines on the Ethics of Journal Publishing set out the ethical and professional standards expected of everyone involved in the journal publication process, specifically authors, editors, and referees.
