Research into local culture: implications for participatory development

This paper examines the importance of culture and participation in development efforts. In this regard, it looks at the problems which have arisen as the result of those receiving aid, being regarded as objects rather than subjects with their own culture and behavioural patterns. The paper looks at why research into culture is important, and examines the relevance of participatory development. Abstract supplied by kind permission of CABI.
